A tiki party may be a classic theme, but it’s one that never feels tired. Evocative of lazy and luxurious island life, it encourages guests to let loose and relax. With the warm summer nights upon us, it’s the perfect time to transform your backyard into the ultimate island retreat and spend a relaxing evening under the stars with your party guests.

To help you plan the ultimate tiki get-together, we found the best tiki party ideas around including food, cocktail, decor and DIY bar ideas. Check out our inspiration boards below which also includes quick tips so that you can easily recreate the ambiance at yourself!

Tiki Party Cocktails and Drinks

Nothing says tiki more than serving up pina coladas and Mai Tais. Garnish your drinks with unique fruits like starfruit and along with tropical flowers like orchids and plumeria. Cheers to those of you who can get your hands on tiki statue cups!

Freshly cracked coconuts make the perfect non-alcoholic beverage to serve at your tiki party. Not only are they decorative, they’ll keep your guests properly hydrated throughout the night. Revamp the classic lemonade by infusing tropical fruits like mango or pineapple.

Tiki Party Bar Decor

No tiki party is complete without a bar full of refreshing drinks and cocktails! Since you won’t want to spend the entire evening serving your guests, setting up a self-serve bar is the way to go. It’s the perfect time to revamp that bar cart that’s been collecting dust in your living room. Decorate its with fresh tropical flowers arranged in a pineapple. Have fun with the accessories like providing tropical-themed napkins and fruits for garnish. Be sure to stock plenty of bottles to keep the party going!

For a larger bar setup (ever thought of repurposing a vintage trailer?), keep the drinks flowing by serving pre-mixed cocktails or sangria in glass dispensers. For the crafty party hostess, get creative by hand lettering the cocktail menu on tropical banana leaves. Complete the island vibe by decorating the rest of the bar area with printed rugs and potted tropical plants for the perfect tropical ambiance.

Tiki Party Decor and Tablescape

Create a relaxing scene by incorporating the most iconic island elements into your party decor, like tropical leaves. Line your table with palm fronds and use them as placemats for each guest.

Balloons aren’t just for kids’ parties anymore. Take your party to the next level by creating a tropical balloon arch by weaving in tropical leaves. Customize your balloon decor by stenciling leaves or other tropical designs for a tablescape that will be sure to impress.

Pineapples are a must when it comes to tiki decor. For a unique centerpiece idea, arrange tropical flowers in a hollowed out pineapple or spray paint them gold. Hang pineapples up by placing them in macramé plant holders for a creative idea that will make your guests wish they’d thought of it first!

Tiki Party Food Ideas

Infuse the island vibe into the foods you’ll serve at your tiki party. A grilled shrimp and pineapple salad or healthy mango salad is a refreshing way to kick things off. Keep a platter full of colorful fruits like watermelon, cantaloupe, kiwi and passionfruit readily available for your guests to nibble on throughout the party.

Since this is a tiki party, there’s no such thing as using enough pineapple. Hollow out a few pineapples and use them as serving bowls. For the ambitious host, a pineapple shaped cake makes the perfect edible centerpiece.
